I think it depends on the novel, for me. Some are done brilliantly, and others I haven't cared for. Some of the best books I've ever read have been YA novels.
ReplyDeleteI love YA novels because a lot of the time I'm the same age as the character and going through some similar circumstances. I find it easy to relate to them and understand where they're coming from.
ReplyDeleteI like YA (when it's done right) because when I was about the characters' age nothing interesting happened to me, so basically now I live adventures through YA books. I also have a lot more fun with YA, most adult books just bore the hell out of me.
ReplyDeleteI think there's something special about YA - a sense of discovery, of figuring out who you are, when the world can become anything... makes for interesting characters and stories. YA also often pushes genre boundaries that adult books don't, and fantasy YA in particular has a lot more interesting and strong female characters than adult fantasy. YA has a tendency to be more fun too, though the teenage angst can be overdone sometimes! :-) Thanks for the giveaway!

ReplyDeleteI only started really reading YA in the last year or so. And I love it because it trims the fat. Traditional lit can be a little full of it's self with the flowery descriptions, redundant ponderings. I always thought, "Get on with the story!" YA zeroes in on the dialogue,action and romance. Isn't that what we're all looking for in a book?

When you're a teenager, anything is possible. The world hasn't yet tainted you to the point of no return. I like reading about young characters because they remind me of what I can still accomplish if I put my mind to it.

ReplyDeleteI read YA because with YA novels, I get to actually experience a whole lot of different genres. I can't exactly stomach adult fantasy and sci-fi so I love YA novels for making these genres more palatable. And who knows! One day I might just move on to the adult stuff.
